This was Michael Moorcock's first published novel, though the author has pointed out that the artist James Cawthorn more or less co-wrote it and the SBL editor, W. Howard Baker, made a lot of revisions. However, it is still possible to recognise Moorcock's influence in the tight plotting and original take on detective fiction clichés. ConditionI am not a professional grader, so the following is my own simple classification, intended to supplement the photos of the item for sale.The list of faults is probably not exhaustive, and is only intended to give an indication of books' overall condition. There are little (staple?) holes near or at outside page-edges, that are common in this type of publication. Grade 1 (best) Book(s) tanned, with fairly minor shelf wear, marks / foxing and corner creases. Grade 2 (average) Wear, marks, foxing & creases stronger or more widespread. Binding staple rusty, with staining or damage to surrounding paper (in the margin/gutter).Minor spine wear may be present.A newsagent may have written the original purchaser's name on the front cover. Grade 3 (lowest) As above plus... Spine wear may be more extensive and binding loose (but still intact).Creasing & marks may be more extensive or noticable and there could be small rips - usually to page or cover edges. This book is in grade 2, just; the cover is worn and has some creases (as do some page corners); internally there is sporadic foxing; hwoever, the binding is still fairly strong.______________ Standard UK postage is via Royal Mail Second Class post, and I dispatch within 3 working days of payment.Whilst not 'bagged & boarded' comic-style, packaging will be stiffened to prevent creasing.
