Colorful, playful, trimmed in a reddish brown, the plates add an element of entertainment to any table or dinner party. A wonderful mid-century graphic take on the French rebus dish tradition. This playful Taste Setter Collection plate features a colorful Rebus word/picture puzzle on one side and the answer (completed) phrase on the backside, alongside the Tase Setter Collection trademark. They measure 7.5" in diameter. NOTE: A rebus puzzle is a type of French puzzle which consists of various parts such as little pictures, letters, numbers, symbols and geographic figures, which put together cryptically represent a word, phrase or saying. The first collection of rebus puzzles was published in 1582, and rebus plates became very popular in France around 1800. All plates are in great vintage condition with no chips, cracks or breakage. There is some light surface wear on some of the plates - Any notable condition issues will be called out in the listing of plates included in the lot below: "A STITCH IN TIME SAVES NINE"Condition Note: There is a pen size rust colored dot on the front of the plate and there are similar colored stains around the ring on the bottom of the plate - was not able to remove with traditional cleaning. "KEEP YOUR NOSE TO THE GRINDSTONE"Condition Note: There are some light rust-colored stains on the back side of the plate that I was not able to remove with traditional cleaning. "THE GRASS IS ALWAYS GREENER ON THE OTHER SIDE" Condition Note: Minor surface wear to the pattern/design. "DON'T PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET" Condition Note: Very minor surface wear.
