Description: Set of 2 Multi-Color Multi-Floral Lithophane Geisha Tea Cups Japan For consideration is this set of 2 vintage multi-color and multi-floral tea cups. These feature a lithophane geisha girl or woman in the bottom of the tea cups that can be seen when drinking your last drop of tea or when the cup is held up to light. Both cups have the same geisha girl image with a big hairstyle adorned with a flower. There are pink, blue, orange, yellow, white and purple flowers, and I identified a rose, a tulip and some clematis; the other flowers I’m not familiar with. The porcelain is see-through when held up to light. The mouth and handle are accented with gold trim. The sides and backs of the cups are undecorated. Although there is no makers mark these are most likely made in Japan (see note below). They measure 1 5/8 inches tall, the mouths measure 3 inches in diameter and the bases measure 1 3/8 inches in diameter. Both cups are in excellent vintage condition with no problems noted other than perhaps some gold loss. Buyer will receive FREE shipping. Thank you for looking! NOTE: The meaning of LITHOPHANE is porcelain impressed with figures that are made distinct by transmitted light. Cups with lithophane geisha were made in Japan in the late 1930s through early 1960s, largely as export ware. They were mass produced after WWII, and were a common item purchased and brought back to the United States by service members.
