Description: Offering a pair of rare antique tiles made by the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works. They depict two jousting knights on horseback in relief with creamy amber yellow and blue glaze over the clay body. Founded by Henry Chapman Mercer in Doylestown, Pennsylvania in 1898, the pottery continued operation after Mercer's death in 1930 until sometime in the 1950s. Reproductions of Mercer's original designs were introduced by the Bucks County Department of Parks and Recreation in 1976. This tile measures about 7 1/4 inches wide, 4 1/2 inches high, and about 5/8" inch thick. As found condition, still has cement mortar on the back of both. One tile has condition issues on the backside. One tile has a stone imbedded in the front. Please see photographs as they are part of the description.
