Description: This hollow Septarian Slab came from Sothern Utah, USA.It is beautifully polished by hand.It has brilliant calcite crystals.Dimensions are 7" in height x 5.25" in length x 1.5" in depthSeptarian Nodules are concretions containing angular cavities or cracks.Septarian Crystals were formed during the Cretaceous period when the Gulf of Mexico reached what is now Southern Utah. Some believe that they were formed by a chemical attraction caused by sea life that were killed by volcanic eruptions. Some nodules have a solid calcite crystal center and others are hollow with dogtooth crystals. The outer part is bentonite (clay) and the thin brown layer separating the calcite & Bentonite is aragonite. Sometimes you will find barite crystals poking out of the calcite crystals and occasionally one or more fossils are noticeable in or on the rock. Utah Septarian Nodules are very rare & unique.Thank you for looking at this beautiful Septarian Nodule Hollow Slab.Weight: 2 pounds 8 ouncesCJ.YX
