Description: Although Seaboard World Airlines had previously served these cities on flights operating to and from Europe, legislation enacted on November 16, 1977, granted airlines holding “all-cargo certificates” authority to enter any all-cargo market. Seaboard World Airlines exercised this privilege on October 30-31, 1978 with flights between New York and Los Angeles via Chicago and San Francisco. This cover was carried on the October 30, 1978 inaugural Air Mail Route 119 flight from the United Nations Post Office in New York to Chicago, Illinois (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 119W4u. The airline merged with Flying Tiger Line on October 1, 1980, resulting in the loss of its corporate identity. The Flying Tiger Line is now part of FedEx Airlines.
