Description: Scarce Schafer & Vater German bisque porcelain Lobster/Duck/Lady match holder. She has a lobster claw face but has webbed feet like a duck! Circa late 1800's early 1900's. Measures: 5" tall... 2.5" elbow to elbow... 3.25" front to back... 2.25" across the base. She's in excellent condition with NO chips, cracks or repairs and NO paint wear. As good as you could ever hope for! The details! Her anatomy: Lobster claw face... lobster legs for her arms... her backpack is a downward facing lobster head with antennae that curl up and over her shoulders... and those duck feet! She's in a frilly dress, apron and bonnet. Hand painted with incredible detail... The raised Swiss dots on her dress, the duck leg texture at her ankles and the multi-colored base. Exquisite! Impressed mark 54. Undoubtedly, Schafer & Vater. Some of their pieces are marked with the crown and R mark, but many were unmarked. A very rare and unusual piece to add to any collection of match/toothpick holders, tobacco/tobacciana, lobster/nautical themes. The buyer will be very pleased.
