Description: Hello! This auction is for a SCARCE MINT NEVER HINGED VERY FINE PAIR of Scott # 1303a, the 4c Lincoln horizontal coil definitive from the Prominent Americans series. This strip is Untagged, and is precanceled "SEATTLE WASH.", Precancel Stamp Society Style 71. The fifth edition of the Precancel Stamp Society Catalog of United States Bureau Precancels states: "Some collectors collect bureau precancels with gum. This is particularly challenging for issues before August 1967. Previously, sale of precancels to collectors was prohibited, and most dealers in bureaus soaked off the gum to avoid the appearance of violating postal regulations. As a result, there can be a large premium for full gum bureau issues, especially for issues prior to 1967". The pair is mint never hinged and there is slight ink offset on the gum on the back of both stamps--see above scan. The above is a stock scan, but the pair that you receive will be virtually the same. The 2022 Scott catalogue value for a pair in the grade of VF is $19.00.
