KEYWORDS: Dorothy Sayers, Robert Eustace, Documents, Case, Mushroom, Toxic, Mycology, Mystery, Murder DESCRIPTION: From the back cover: "The grotesquely grinning corpse in the Devonshire shack was of a man who had died horribly -- with a dish of mushrooms at his side. His body contained enough death-dealing muscarine to kill thirty people. Why would an expert on fungi feast on a large quantity of this particularly poisonous species? A clue to the brilliant murderer, who had baffled the best minds in London, was hidden in a series of letters and documents that no one seemed to care about, except the dead man's son." Sayers's only co-written novel outside of the Detection Club anthologies, this epistolary tale, originally published in 1930, was co-written with Robert Eustace (Eustace Robert Barton), an author active from the very late 19th century, who supplied much of the scientific and technical background to this compelling tale. Although it is not Sayers's only work of detective fiction in which Peter Wimsey does not make an appearance (qv; the Montague Egg stories), it is by no means the poorer for his absence. A lively and engaging novel. CONDITION: Light shelf-wear to covers, bent at lower outside corners with creases visible but flattened. Corners lightly bumped, slight creasing and wear along the spine. Original bookshop sticker on rear cover on top of the barcode. Pencilled price on IFEP, otherwise interior appears to be unmarked, although age-toned. A sound copy for reading, in the attractive and uniform Harper Perennial format of the late 1980s. FROM THE BOOKSELLER: Thank you for visiting the Dactyl Books eBay Store!
