BAGDIKIAN, author of the story on air pollution, says his chief advantage for this particular article is that he possesses the largest nose of anyone on The Post staff. In 1962, living in Washington, D.C., Bagdikian and his family all developed symptoms which they passed off as hay fever or asthma. While doing the pollution story four years later, he learned that in 1962 the whole eastern part of the country had been in the middle of a large-scale "inversion"--an acute pollution problem. Working with Bagdikian were photographer JOHN LAUNOIS and Post story manager SALLY REUKAUF. TREVOR ARMBRISTER, a contributing writer, gives full credit for his profile of Oskar Werner to photographer PHILIPPE HALSMAN. Preferring "discussions with friends" to interviews, the actor could converse with Halsman on such topics as Nietzsche and Schopenhauer. Armbrister gleaned much of his material while listening to the talk. / Cover photo by John Launois. CONTRIBUTORS:William A.
