Description: Quite rare offering out of the Living Estate today. I cannot say which holds more beauty, the subject, Saskia Van Uylenburgh, the wonderful and aristocratically presented wife of Rembrandt, or the artistic beauty of the fine painstaking creation talent of the artist Samuel Arlent Edwards Jr.I do not want to diminish the fact that there are two great pieces offered in this listing with the finely presented and gorgeous young boy, also well presented in aristocratic garment and adornment. I recognize that the featured Saskia holds the greatest appeal, yet I would invite all to visit the feature on line put out by Georgetown University entitled "Masters In Mezzotint: Color Prints by S. Arlen Edwards" and truly appreciate the dedicated and unforgiving art process involved in the creation of both these pieces. There is no room for error or repair in this wonderful hand colored and created mezzotint process. The Saskia piece is on a 15 1/2" x 21" sheet with a plate impression of 12 1/2" x 19" and the young boy is on a sheet size of 10 3/4 x 13 1/4" and plate impression of 8 1/2" x 10 1/2". The Saskia work is deemed to be created in1907 and I do not know the presumed date of the Young Boy. I also do not know of any other available offering to purchase the Saskia Van Uylenburgh example. S. Arlent Edwards (1862-1938) is in numerous first class museums around the world.
