Thank you for supporting our libraries and have a great weekend. Santo (plural santos) is a generic term, used in New Mexico to denote representations of saints or holy persons. When used to designate any specific character, the word becomes a tiele, as in Santo Domingo. The term is used in this book in reference to any representation of the saints or holy persons. A crucifix, a religious print, or a stature are each referred to as a santo. Two types of santos in art are recognized. The statue, or figure in the round , is a bulto. The painted board, relief panel, or print is a retablo. We have retained the Spanish terminology inasmuch as popular usage throughout the Southwest has gained acceptance for these words in both written and spoken English. All proceeds benefit the Libraries of Pima County. Please review all photos. This listing has been donated. Please note that the listing is for what you see in the listing.
