Description: Sansevieria hallyi also known as the ‘ Baseball Bat ’ Sansevieria Sansevieria hallyi is an extraordinary semi-succulent evergreen plant species native to low lying dry savanna in the northeastern corner of southeastern Zimbabwe’s Limpopo Province in southern Africa. It grows in rocky dry river valleys, sandstone regions and in the sandy soil beneath baobab trees. An uncommon species highly desired by plant collectors, known in cultivation as the 'Baseball Bat' Sansevieria, S. hallyi is distinguished by its thick and stout, nearly cylindrical, gently curved dappled blue-green leaves. Sansevieria hallii was named by Juan Chahinian in the 1996 Sansevieria Journal, for Harry Hall (1906–1986) who first collected this species in 1957 near Birchenough Bridge in southeastern Zimbabwe. Hall had been caretaker of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden’s succulent collection until 1968. Although relatively slow growing and flowering infrequently under cultivation, Sansevieria hallii is easily grown— a tough species that can survive under neglect. A great container plant that needs little care, it likes to be underpotted and kept pot-bound, repotted into slightly larger pots as it grows. It prefers soil with good drainage and takes well to container culture, suitable for growing indoors as a houseplant, greenhouse plant and in frost-free outdoor gardens. S. hallyi enjoys shade or hot and dry conditions — and grows on almost any soil. Though it can tolerate strong sun to some degree, S.hallyi prefers bright filtered light or partial shade. It makes an excellent houseplant. A hardy species, Sansevieria hallyi will thrive in any collection. It has low water requirements, surviving well with infrequent irrigation. Sansevieria is generally a forgiving and tolerant genus ~ vigorous and easy to cultivate. Very easy to grow and care for, this tough, bulletproof plant can take a lot of neglect and absolutely flourish. Drought Tolerant Suitable for Xeriscaping Big and thick leaves, good color. For sale is a rooted offset pup taken from the strong and healthy 'mother' plants in my collection as shown in the photos above. Specimens typical of what you will receive are shown in the photo directly below. TYPICAL SPECIMEN SIZES. You will receive one plant similar to those shown in the photograph directly above this caption. Sorry, please understand that special requests regarding specific specimens or length cannot be accommodated. Thanks. Specimens typical of those for sale are shown in the photo immediately above. This is of course a living product of nature with natural variation. At a guaranteed minimum you will receive at least one good strong leaf with starter roots ready for planting as shown. Like most arid environment plants, Sansevieria has evolved to abandon its roots during long periods of drought, and concentrate its sustenance in the leaves and underground stolons. Therefore your specimen may or may not have extensive root material, though it will have root buds from which new roots will rapidly form and grow once it is planted. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY For sale are 2 gradations of cosmetic visual perfection: Both are in super healthy, prime physical condition. “Very Pretty” means a specimen that is more or less visually spotless as far as natural plant matter goes, and pristine. “Minor Visual Imperfections” means there might be a small healed- over scratch or two on the leaf, or perhaps a bit or normal brown leaf- drying at the tip, that sort of thing. There's no disease of any kind, just normal, perfectly healthy plants that may have taken a physical nick in the course of their planting and growing : purely cosmetic visuals that won’t affect the plant’s health in any way whatsoever. Gardeners and horticulturists who know how the natural world works, look for healthy genetic stock above all else. They know a small blemish on a leaf, the healed scar of a tiny abrasion or so, will not affect the health of all the beautiful new growth the plants will produce. This variation is for such people — who, as in the words of the classic Joni Mitchell song, don’t mind an apple's spot for the sake of the birds, bees and healthy trees. Please choose carefully then, from the variations on offer in this listing according to your own needs and preference. Either variation is a fantastic way to get a great price on a nice, super healthy plant specimen. You will receive a fine naturally formed reproductive specimen : at least one good leaf + starter roots ready for planting — healthy and good to grow. Easy Instructions Included FREE SHIPPING!
