Made for Mr. George E. Dimock Illustrated: the frontispieces are reproduced twice, the first of which is hand-colored and the colorist often signs in pencil (a few are signed A L Shaw, and dated 1902). Interestingly, all illustrations in the text are reproduced three times, all with tissue guards; they do appear to be slightly different papers or printing techniques, but all in black and white. Volume 1 of Pamela has been signed by William Lyon Phelps on the limitation page.Volume 1 of Sir Charles Grandison has Dimock's very classy bookplate on the inside cover. Complete in 20 volumes, comprising three novels: Pamela (5 volumes), Clarissa Harlowe (8 volumes), and Sir Charles Grandison (7 volumes). Condition: Twenty hardcovers; overall in excellent conditions. Off-white buckram covers inevitably have some darkening from general handling, title cards on spines have seen more wear, and the non-black type is faded. The interiors are unmarked, and uncut/unopened, clearly unread, on thick "Croscup and Sterling" water-marked paper. The books do have cream/off-white ribbon bookmarks, but they have mostly become detached. Bindings are firm and secure. According to WorldCat.org, five copies of this Founder's edition are in universities (Vassar, and four in Germany), which leaves only ten in private hands.
