(from Facebook) "Happy Hollow was once the site of an amusement park and photo studio? It's #HotSpringsHistory! In the late 1880's, photographer Norman McLeod opened McLeod's Amusement Park, otherwise known as Happy Hollow on Fountain Street in downtown Hot Springs. Before the amusement park took off, Happy Hollow began as a photo studio. Visitor's from all over the world came to Hot Springs, stopping at Happy Hollow to have their photograph taken. Infamous gangsters like Owen Vincent Madden and Al Capone visited Happy Hollow to pose at the saloon. Visitors would pose with various backdrops and props including a bathtub, with painted wooden cut-outs, on horseback, or on mules. Later McLeod's Amusement Park evolved into a larger operation, including the photo studio, a zoo, a souvenir shop, and a shooting gallery featuring glass bottles on a shelf and hanging along the mountainside. Happy Hollow quickly became a nationally known site, offering a place for visitors to have fun from the 1880's all the way to 1946. Today, the Happy Hollow site is home to The Happy Hollow Hotel as well as the Happy Hollow Cold Spring Fountain, where visitors can fill up on Hot Springs' famous water for free."
