Description: Illinois 11 Jewel Pocket watch. The movement serial number is 148215 - model 2, grade 1 manufactured in 1880. The movement is still running and keeping good time 144 years after manufacture! The watch case is a nice 4 Oz. Coin Silver case, made by the Dueber Watch Case Company. These old Coin Silver l watches have a nice warm sheen when polished up - this case still has some bumps and bruises, and the engraving on the back lid shows some wear consistent with moderate use. This is a 3-hinge style case with hinged bezel, rear lid and dust cover. All covers snap shut just fine. There is a keywind hole in the back dust cover. The crystal is a new glass crystal from White's Crystals. The case has a nice Silveroid bow and Silveroid crown. The porcelain-enamel dial has thin black Roman numerals. This dial is in very nice condition, there are several small edge chips hidden by the bezel, but I dont see any cracks or repaired areas. There is one chip at the center hole that extends into the 60 second mark. The thin spade-style steel hands are blue, the second hand is also blued. The mechanical movement is 11 jewels, the balance wheel has good motion, and the movement has been cleaned and is in running order. This movement received a new alloy mainspring as part of the service. The movement is engraved "Queen", one of the many signed variants of the 18s Illinois movement from this period. The balance cock has a cutout so the balance wheel is more visible. This movement is also a "5th pinion" movement which is essentially a hunting case movement with an extra pinion making the second hand line up at the 6:00 position. This watch is a lever set movement. To set the time, unscrew the front bezel, use your fingernail to gently pull out the setting lever (at 2:00) and then use the crown to set the time. Push the setting lever back in, replace the front bezel, and then use the crown to wind the watch. Check the picture showing the lever pulled out. The watch has been recently serviced, is running and keeps time to within a few minutes each day. These old pocket watches make fun gifts for friends and family. USA Sales Only Please.
