Description: This is for royalty Iochroma seeds. Iochroma 'Royalty' it has the wide flaring bell shape flowers from I. australe on a larger growing shrub that doesn't go dormant. 'Royalty' lives up to its name with royal purple flowers in profusion. Nearly black buds open to wide flaring dark purple, nearly black flowers in good light. May fade to more grape coloring in low light areas. Flower color can be subjective in iochromas since they seem to change color with light intensity. This is a brief guide to Iochroma. There is increasing interest in Iochromas which are late spring-summer flowering shrubs. Only six of the 24 or so Iochroma species are in general cultivation but between them, and their hybrids, they give a wide range of flower colors in shades of blue, purple, red, orange and white. The flowers do not smell but are nonetheless attractive to hummingbirds in the US. The plants are moderately hardy. I have mine growing in a container and it has withstood temperatures in the mid-twenties without damage, and without ceasing to bloom.. My plant has withstood 25 degrees and looked good. Shrubs get to 8 feet tall and wide and are nearly always in bloom. They are a great plant for attracting hummingbirds. Can be grown in containers in colder climates and brought in by a sunny window for the winter. They still bloom indoors. This is for 10 fresh organic seeds with growing instructions.
