Description: Royal Crown Derby 4 Cup & Saucer Sets Brittany Floral Red Green White wGold 1972 An Exquisite Decorative ROYAL CROWN DERBY Set of 4 FLAT CUPS & DEEP SAUCERS, BRITTANY pattern in RED & GREEN with Gold Trim & RED ENAMEL BEADED Highlights, circa 1970-1972 from Derby, England DESCRIPTION: This is really neatly executed. The vivid red beads were applied to mimic flowers or berries. The sets are smooth rimmed with flat cups and deep bowl-like saucers. The artist used a simple color palette of only red & green on the high white of the bone china with bold gold trim on all rims and handles & feet of the cups. We have other listings for this pattern in our eBay store. CONDITION: The condition of this set is superb. While the set is classified as used, we can find no utensil wear or rubbing. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid colors and no crazing. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, hairlines or repairs to this stunning set. There is no wear to the gold. DIMENSIONS: The cups have a diameter of 3 1/8" and a height of 2 5/8" and a capacity of 6 ounces. The deep bowl-like saucers have a diameter of 4 7/8" and a height of 15/16". HISTORY/MARKS: The Derby Crown Porcelain Company was started in 1876 by William Litherland and Edward Phillips at Osmaston Road in Derby, England. The use of the title, “Royal”, was granted by Queen Victoria in 1890 and the company changed its name to Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Co. Ltd. Geoffrey A. Godden's Encyclopaedia of British Pottery and Porcelain Marks shows the mark #1271 on the back of this set was used from 1890 with the various years distinguished by year ciphers. The year cipher (XXVIII, XXXIII, XXXIV, XXXV), which adds to 1937, used on these indicate production in 1965, 1970, 1971 or 1972. The pattern was produced from 1960-1997.
