Description: Roman Imperial sestertius of Nero, with triumphal arch on the reverse, 54-68 A.D., Sear 683, R.I.C. 183, approx. 34-35 mm diameter, 27.3 gm. The obverse shows the laureate head of Nero, to the right, with the legend "NERO CLAVD. CAESAR AVG. GER. P. M. TR. P. IMP. P. P.". The reverse shows a triumphal arch between a large "S" and "C". The arch is garlanded and ornate, topped by the Emperor in a quadriga, with PAX and VICTORY, flanked by two soldiers. The bas is decorated with designs, helmeted statue of Mars with a spear and shield in the side alcove, reclining figures in the angles below. On the obverse is an old mark at Nero's eye that goes up into the hairline. Both sides are a dark green, hard patina with some surface texture.
