Description: There's something inherently special about an elegantly thin, yellow-gold, time-only solid gold watch from horology’s most famous name Rolex, who's better known for its water-resistant automatic stainless steel sport models. The Rolex Geneve line remains overlooked today but offers some gems like this rare dress watch reference 88156. This is a slim and elegant watch from a time when the manufacturer was building a reputation for robust, water-resistant tool watches, like the Submariner or the GMT-Master. On the surface of the dial is a beautiful sunburst finish and a rich champagne hue carrying patina, which add a layer of dimension to the watch. The applied hour markers and logo show the attention to detail put into this watch, with its 9 carat yellow gold case and bracelet. This is not your typical Rolex – The solid gold Rolex signed bracelet will fit a gents wrist up to 7.5 inches in circumference, can be worn loose on a smaller wrist or alternatively adjusted to a smaller size within the clasp ladder or by removing links. The case bears hallmarks for (England) London 1970. The champagne sunburst dial is signed ‘Rolex Geneve Swiss’. Recently inspected by a Rolex specialist watchmaker, keeping accurate time and in superb running order. Ready to treasure and enjoy for many years to come! A practical, accurate and reliable timepiece to use for evening wear, on a regular basis, as you so wish. Beautiful Rolex signed dial, housed in a 9 carat solid Gold case fitted to a rare factory 9 carat gold Milanese link bracelet which glides on your wrist in pure style and comfort, featuring a unique design. The Geneve line was first introduced in the 1960’s. Rolex did produce a number of minimalist, elegant gold dress watches under the Geneve name to compete with the likes of Patek Philippe ‘Calatrava’ and Vacheron Constantin’s ‘Patrimony’. The Pateks and Vach’s are selling for 3/4 times more than this Rolex today albeit this Rolex is clearly a sleeper. Gold Precision's such as this offer enduring style to those that appreciate understated elegance. A rare vintage 33mm 9 carat solid gold Gents Rolex Geneve- The understated and utterly timeless Rolex. The Original Dial: Signed Rolex Geneve below ‘12’ and ‘Swiss’ at the very bottom. Rolex went to considerable trouble and expense to ensure its Calibre 1600 series movements performed equally as well as its competitors movements such as the manual wind calibre 23-300 movement from Patek, and they succeeded! These are indeed high precision movements and the example here is running beautifully.. – The high grade, 19 jewel hand-wound movement is clean and has been fully inspected by an expert vintage Rolex specialist watchmaker. This particular movement with care and regular servicing, say every 3 to 4 years, one can expect this watch to continue to run very happily for many more decades to come! Original Case: The unique round case is of a very solid two-piece design with a wonderful plain chamfered bezel to improve water and dust resistance. Solid 9 carat yellow Gold case measures 33mm excluding the crown. Has surface hairline scratches associated with precious polished metals commensurate with age and wear. Case Back Cover Outer: The press fit case-back clicks into place with a firm and satisfying ‘pop’, indicating it is a nice tight fit and is of full thickness, having never been inscribed. The success of the wristwatch can be largely attributed to many of Rolex’s innovations which made the company one of the most respected and well-known of all luxury brands. These have included its famous “Oyster” case — the world’s first water-resistant and dustproof watch case, invented in 1926 — and its “Perpetual” — the world’s first reliable, self-winding movement for the wristwatch, launched in 1933. These would form the foundation for Rolex’s Datejust and Day-Date, respectively introduced in 1945 and 1956. Also and equally importantly, Rolex is known for its sports watches, such as the Explorer, Submariner and GMT-Master launched in the mid-1950s.
