On personal letterhead to "Dear Mr. Stanhope". In full: "Your letter of Aug. 2 has been received and I will be glad to send you an autographed photo as soon as I get home. At the present I am spending the summer up in Canada where it is nice and cool. I have a very good friend in Albuquerque, Mr. & Mrs. William A. Shi8mmick. They live or lived at 3506 Cardenas Place N.E. If you see or call either of them please give them our warmest regards. You will hear from me later. Best regards to you." Roland Richardson was a pursuit pilot with the Air Service of the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I, flying a Spad XII. In 1994, Richardson's diary entries and letters home from France were published as An American Pursuit Pilot in France (Ritchie Thomas & Carl Becker, ed.). Fine condition.
