Description: Title: Rocks & Minerals, Vol. 52 No. 1, January / February 1977 Author: Various Authors Publisher: Heldref Publishing, Date: 1977 ISBN: N/A Format: Paperback, 50 pages Book Condition: Very Good Jacket Condition: No Jacket Dimensions (if available): 9.0 x 5.875 x 0.25 in. Keywords: Rocks,Minerals, Magazine, Periodical, Journal, 1977, January, February Description: This issue is from the final year of Rocks & Minerals' publication is in the smaller digest-sized format, which the magazine had used from its inception under Peter Zodac in 1926. This is the first issue of the uncommon 1977 run of the magazine. It is also the first time a full four-colour photograph appeared on the cover of R&M (in this case, a pretty little mimetite from Tsumeb). Possibly more of interest to completists than general readers, this will be an ideal item for someone filling in their collection of R&M from the 1970s, especially given how infrequently the 1977 issues appear for sale. Articles include: * Cerussite and Hydrocerussite on Altered Civil War Lead Bullets: Are They Minerals? by Richard S. Mitchell* Westmoreland, New Hampshire - The Closing of a Collecting Site by Ernest S. Schlichter* Selection of Faceting Material by Gilberet Wegad* and much more! For more information regarding this and other back issues of Rocks & Minerals, you might want to consult the Mineralogical Society of America’s (rather creaking, but still functional) back issues index: http://www.minsocam.org/MSA/collectors_corner/rm/index.htm Rocks & Minerals is the longest-lived American publication devoted to a non-specialist audience of collectors and rockhounds. Founded in 1926 in Peekskill, New York by mining engineer Peter Zodac, the magazine continued under his control until his death in 1967. A decade later, the magazine underwent a major style overhaul, which included a shift from digest size to journal format. A move to color photography followed, which helped to ensure the magazine’s relevance to a new audience of readers and collectors. By the beginning of 2019, it was entering its 94th year of continuous publication. Condition: Very good overall. Light scuffing to covers, mild bumping to corners, original mailing label on bottom of rear coverbut overall a very nice copy of this key issue in the ninety year history of the magazine. Shipped to you carefully packed, and in its own mylar bag with backing board for extra protection (it's how I store my own copies of the journal-sized back issues of Rocks & Minerals).
