Scarce 2nd Novel Coma was Robin Cook's second novel. It was commercially successful, though it is lesser known in literary circles considering his subsequent wide body of work, and the varying film adaptations attached to that body of work. This particular book was adapted into a film by then director/author Michael Crichton. This particular edition is a first edition, and it's a very early printing. The Dust Jacket indicates this is a book club edition, but see the pictures. The actual hardback is two-toned, whereas book club editions usually have a cheaper design. However, it is not stated as "first edition" on the copyright stage, book club edition is stated on the dust jacket. It's possible this book has been placed in a dust jacket that was not originally included with it upon its initial distribution. This is unknown at this time. If this were a stated first edition, I would list it at twice what I'm listing it at now. Since I'm not sure, I'm erring on the side of caution at $49.99, and I'm willing to negotiate. Single Price: $49.99 Sphinx, Robin Cook, 1st Edition, Fine to Like New, Collectible Vintage, Rare HB This book is in essentially perfect condition except for a dot about .125 in. in diameter on the edges of the outward-facing pages. The dust jacket has been covered with a plastic protection sleeve. The sleeve has some cosmetic damage, but the cover beneath does not, and is pristine. There is a price listed inside the dust jacket, and the book is the size of a 1/1 first edition. It also has a two-tone binding; black at the spine, beige over the pages. The copyright and the printing indicate the publication year, 1979. The book advertises "Coma" as the previous author's work, indicating how early it was printed collaterally. It is likely a 1/1, but it doesn't expressly state as much. It is certainly the book in its first edition state, and it is certainly one of the earliest copies made available to the public.
