Having lived on the North Shore for many years, he has been able to experiment with different aspects of pottery. Troost is well known for his unique raku pots, which are found in many Hawaiian homes and galleries, these pots are now done with a crystalline glaze. Creating these crystals is an elaborate process. Excessive amounts of zinc – oxide form a nucleus around minerals in the glaze. Titanium dioxide also plays a big part rowing the crystals. Grown during the cooling process of the fire, the shapes and patterns are unpredictable, the essence of Hawaii lives in Troost pottery. These high fired. porcelain pots are fully functional oven proof and dishwasher safe.
