Description: LONDON, RIVER THAMES, KING'S REACH - ORIGINAL BR/ LNER SERIES RAILWAY CARRIAGE PRINT approx 1947 by poster artist Frank Henry Mason R.I. for display in railway carriages. This is an original print saved from a railway coach in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. Overall Size: 20 x 10 inches (508 x 254mm). A rare print by the superb artist.One of a range of many original carriage prints from my reserve collection I am selling which are not sometimes in perfect condition due to defects but are complete. They are therefore offered at a very reasonable price for their age. It is in very good, condition and colour with a minor stain top right border. I will post, 2nd class delivery in a strong tube.NOTE: Original-style reproduction FRAMES suitable for these carriage prints can also be purchased via Ebay using search "Railway Carriage Print Frames" and I can frame for you and send if ordered on the same day.KING'S REACH, RIVER THAMES: A magnificent landscape painting of London's River by Mason situated on Waterloo Bridge, slightly downriver from the site of the present National Theatre. He is looking towards Blackfriars Bridge and the 365 ft dome of Sir Christopher Wren's St. Pauls Cathedral, which rises impressively in the background, unimpeded by the tall buildings around it which now mar the view. In spite of all the fine architecture on the skyline, Mason chooses hard working tugs and lighters alongside the river wharf to dominate the foreground and remind us that London is also a place of work showing two faces of the capital. Two individual vessels stand out, moored to the Victoria Embankment. The black hulled vessel is HMS President, the London RNR drill ship. This was built as the Flower class sloop Saxifrage (London Pride). Ahead of her is the Headquarters Ship Wellington. She was a Leith class sloop completed in 1934 which since 1947 has been the Honourable Company of Master Mariners' HQ.The nearest station to this location is Waterloo (ex LSWR).More information on carriage prints can be viewed on the travellingartgallery.com website.
