Description: Up for bid is the entire series Rising Stars: Bright (2003) Issues #1-3. Rising Stars is a comic book limited series by J. Michael Straczynski about 113 people (called "Specials") born with special abilities following the appearance of a mysterious light in the sky above Pederson, Illinois. Rising Stars was one of the first comics produced under Straczynski's own Joe's Comics imprint for Top Cow Productions. One of the Specials is Matthew Bright, a police officer with the powers of flight, super-strength and speed, and near-invulnerability. He is perhaps the strongest of the Specials. At first he hid his identity as a Special so as to join the police. After a series of bombings, he is exposed and the Federal Government revokes his badge as Specials are not allowed to participate in any form of government department. His fellow officers then name him a 'special' deputy rank and supply a new badge and uniform. Being the only one of the Specials with legal power and authority, he is often used by the government as a means of controlling or observing conflict relating to other Specials. As stated above, this auction is for the complete limited series Rising Stars: Bright (2003) Issues #1-3. This was the first Rising Stars spin-off, and was written by Fiona Avery, and penciled by Dan Jurgens. It is about Matthew Bright's rookie years as a police officer in the NYPD. Highlights include:Issue #1, published in March 2003, was written by Fiona Avery, with art by Dan Jurgens (superman, and a cover by David Michael Beck. In the hit series, Rising Stars, it is mentioned that Matthew Bright ran away and, under an assumed name, became a member of normal society and a police officer. Join us as Matthew tells this story in his memoirs and learn how a Special can shine brightest when they're just being human.Issue #2 sees Matthew Bright still living under the assumed name of Brendan Miller, and making close friendships in the precinct, when a new serial killer case erupts in the NYPD. Matt really takes the case to heart upon discovering that the serial killer has Specials in mind whenever he kills. In the second part of three issues, Matthew's secret identity as Brendan Miller is about to be ripped from him and his true nature as a special is revealed.Issue #3 concludes the series. Matthew Bright has been set-up by The Shepherd of Death, the serial bomber terrorizing the streets of New York. Familiar faces from Matt's past surface as the world of his former self, Brendan Miller, collapses around him. But his precinct isn't ready to turn their back on him yet, and in a surprising show of unity, they reinstate Matthew to the ranks of Police Officer. But can Matthew solve the case of The Shepherd of Death? All of the books come bagged and boarded and are in the Very Fine to Near Mint range. Grading is subjective, and only my opinion.
