There are several important considerations to make before purchasing this particular CISS system. Firstly, the inklink system utilises single use chips which can be reset using the rihac USB powered chip resetter (included). **These chips are fitted with a non-user replaceable battery. Once this battery is dead (typically 6-12 months) the chip will need to be replaced (replacement chips available for puchase here). Currently there is only one chip manufacturer in the world and the only alternative is to use the OEM Brother chips. The OEM chips can be removed from your genuine cartridges and used with the refillable cartridges as an alternative as they do not have a battery. *Chip resetters work for a pre-determined number of resets only, once that number has been exceeded a new chip resetters would need to be purchased. The 40x resetter will reset a total of 40 cartridges and the upgrade option of the 120x resetter will reset a total of 120 cartridges. The amount of times you need to use the resetter is dictated by the chip you have fitted to the CISS as it simply resets the chip counter to read a full cartridge volume. If using the LC3319 chips (as fitted to the CISS) you would expect to reset every 60mls for the Black and every 20mls for the colour cartridges. If using chips from genuine Brother LC3317 cartridges you would expect to reset the black every 15mls and every 12 mls for the colours. If using the 'starter cartridge' chips from the cartridges which came with your printer you would need to reset as per the LC3317+20% as the starter cartridges hold 20% more than a LC3317 cartridge. Rihac also offer a larger cartridge version of this product (click here) which allows for easier and less frequent refilling. The large cartridges can be filled by pouring in the ink rather than syringing in the ink as per these smaller cartridges. However the larger cartridges protrude from the front of the printer and the cartridge door needs to be removed from the printer. The picture below depicts the long style cartridges *Which Ink? Genuine Brother LC3317 & LC3319 cartridges use pigment ink, offering advantages over dye ink such as significantly better fade life & sharpness of print. You can run these printers on dye ink however be aware that you can have initial print quality issues when switching over. When dye ink passes through the head it cannot remove blockages caused by pigment particles. Whilst this is rare, it may require the use of inkjet print head cleaning solution on the heads to resolve. Generally speaking we recommend using the same type of ink as used in Genuine OEM Brother cartridges (pigment ink).
