Description: The "EL CHINGADERO" poster was drawn by Rick Griffin for his good friend Boyd Elder. It announces the opening of Elder's art show April 2nd 1972 in Venice Beach, California. Griffin and Elder were classmates at Chouinard's Art School in Los Angeles, as well as John Van Hammersveld, who organized the opening.Thedrawing on the poster depicts the drive Elder made from his home in Valentine, Texas thru the Southwestto Venice Beach, California in his pick-up truck. Boyd Elder is most famous for his multiple record coversfor the band The Eagles, most of whom were in attendance opening night. Also Cass Elliot, Joni Mitchelland Jackson Brown were there, so there was some pretty good impromptu music. Not only is this piece asuperb example of Griffin's line drawing work, but it can be considered an "important" piece because of allthe people involved---- many of the "Laurel Canyon" residents who went on to fame, music producers, andof course the artists. The piece was used as the invitation to the opening, so very few were printed, and theywere printed on very thin paper so very few survived. This piece is a "must have" for any serious Rick Griffincollector. Finding in 'mint' condition is super rare. This piece has some small issues, the upper left corner(see photos), a bit of foxing along the edges, and I have had it 'linen backed' because the paper is so thin. The low price reflects these issues. It will be carefully shipped in a strong tube. The size of the originalposter is 19 1/8" X 28 3/4". The linen backing is 20 3/4" X 30 1/4". The piece will be shipped 'flat' viaUPS.
