De La Nuez was known for his political and cultural humor, as well as his work in painting. He graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in Journalism. In 1957, he began contributing to the humorous weekly magazine Zig-Zag. He created the character "El Loquito", which became an icon of the criticism against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, thus beginning his career as a professional cartoonist. After the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959, he began drawing for the newspaper "Revolucion" and collaborated in almost all revolutionary press. He created other daily press characters such as "Mogollon", "Negativo Compañero", "Blandengo" and "Barbudo", the latter being a symbol of the Cuban people and precisely the logo of the International Humor Biennial held in San Antonio de los Baños. He was internationally recognized for his humorous drawings, being considered one of the top 100 caricaturists in the world. His humor is characterized by an economy of resources and was always directed towards the search for a visual complicity with his reader. He is the Cuban humorist who has published the most books. Graduado de Periodismo en la Universidad de La Habana. En 1957 comienza a colaborar en el semanario humorístico Zig-Zag. Fue el creador del personaje El Loquito que se convertiría en un ícono de la crítica a la dictadura de Fulgencio Batista, iniciándose así su carrera como caricaturista profesional. En 1959, al triunfo de la Revolución cubana, comenzó a dibujar para el periódico Revolución y colaboró en casi toda la prensa revolucionaria. Creó otros personajes de la prensa diaria como son “Mogollón”, “Negativo Compañero”, “Blandengo” y “Barbudo”, este último, símbolo del pueblo cubano y que es precisamente, el logotipo de la Bienal Internacional del Humor que se celebra en San Antonio de los Baños. Tuvo un reconocimiento internacional por sus dibujos humorísticos, resultando ser considerado dentro de los 100 mejores caricaturistas del mundo. Su humor se destaca por una economía de recursos y siempre estuvo direccionado a la búsqueda de una complicidad visual con su lector. Es el humorista cubano que más libros ha publicado. La serigrafia ha sido impresa en el Taller << Rene Portocarrero >> de Cuba.
