Description: Another R&D sale: a 3D-printed version of the Stork Vacchiano 1.5A+ cornet mouthpiece, with a mellophone [trumpet] shank. Coincidentally, the 1.5A+ cup profile is very close to the Amati-Kraslice 1-1/2F flugelhorn design. The objective was to create a mellophone mouthpiece with a wider inner diameter for a somewhat broader tone. The 1.5A+ tracing used was originally from a cornet mouthpiece, but this custom design has a 0.3850" / 9.779mm shank opening outer diameter, close to standard for trumpet & mellophone mouthpieces. By using the original backbore with thicker shank, the shank opening is a bit less fragile. It's shown fitted with a Bach Mercedes [Olds tooling] mellophone and Amati-Kraslice B-226/AFH-201 flugelhorn [oversize Large Morse taper receiver]. This can also be used with trumpets (especially pocket trumpets) for a darker "flumpet" sound as well. The sound is quite good on mellophone, flugelhorn, even trumpet - not especially dark, but full and flexible. The intonation is relatively even, especially considering the tuning quirks of both flugelhorn and mellophone. If you want a wider piece than the Mello 6, but not radically different otherwise, this might be it. This was made in Belgium from a 3D STL created from the 1.5A+ tracing; there are rim sanding marks and exterior scuffs from the factory, and the exterior shape is different than the original. This is not 100% identical to the previous one, but rather intended to be a close approximation. Resin prints are also less robust than Lexan, for instance - this should not be dropped or roughly handled like one might do with a Kelly plastic mouthpiece! The shank opening is a bit of a thin point - there is no guarantee on strength with this, especially if dropped. The primary advantage of resin is experimentation and having a mouthpiece which does not succumb to temperature fluctuations fast as metal. For pep band in a gymnasium with inconsistent heating, or slight modification purposes, these resin prints might be a decent choice. Sold as-is, no returns, pay within 3 days.
