Ray Bradbury: The Martian Chronicles, 1950, SIGNED 1st edition in jacket

Ray Bradbury: The Martian Chronicles - New York, Doubleday, 1950, SIGNED 1st edition in jacket. Here’s a nice copy of Ray Bradbury’s landmark story cycle, the one that made him famous and one of the cornerstones of science fiction. RB signed and dated it on the front flyleaf in 1984. A great opportunity to acquire a signed copy in nicer shape than most. Condition: Book: Spine and top edges slightly faded (as usual); small circular water spot on front board; tiny spot stain on rear board near spine; corners lightly bumped; bottom corner of rear board slightly frayed; spine ends a little frayed; top of spine slightly darkened; hinges strong; top edge of page block slightly age-toned; pages clean except for a small, faint stain on the half-title; no bookplate or other ownership markings anywhere. Jacket: The jacket is from a different copy of the first edition. The spine ends had some color-retouching, tear seals, and possibly tape removal. The flap folds also had some very minor retouching. (I don’t know who did it but it definitely looks like pro work. See photos.) The front panel has two faint, parallel, vertical scratches and a few short wrinkles at the bottom. The rear panel has a few faint smudge stains. The spine has very light sun-browning and a light diagonal scratch. The flaps have light tanning along the folds and top edges. PACKING: Books: I ship books in boxes, with plenty of padding. Pulps: I bag all pulps and include a backer board. For shipping, I’ll sandwich the bagged pulp between oversized pieces of cardboard and ship in either an envelope or a box, depending on the number of pulps and/or the total value. Combinations: I’ll figure it out. REFUNDS: I’ve been collecting for more than 50 years now and many of you know me, so I doubt you’ll be disappointed. I check every page of every item before listing. You won’t be surprised by missing pages, big stains, clipped coupons, the wrong back cover, etc. However, if the item has significant defects not noted in the description, you may return it for a refund of your original cost.
