Description: Listed here is an incredibly rare work by American artist Bill Ellingson. Numbered as piece 5 of 14, the woodcut depicts a bedside scene of grief. It’s very thematically similar to another relief print of his that’s entitled “Death Scene” made the same year (1961) - likely part of the same collection/ series. Other thematically similar pieces by the same artist are “The Adultress” (1961) and “The Funeral” (1961). As I understand it, the piece listed may be untitled. Prints 10/14, 11/14, 12/14, and 13/14 of this, specific work are property of the University of Iowa and in their archives (To view: https://ovm.art.uiowa.edu/ipg/list). Ergo, of the 14 signed prints, only ten (including this listed one) are potentially in circulation. Condition: Very good. Due to the backing, the print itself is safely tucked inside it’s frame and accordingly cannot be assessed up close. What is visible through the glass looks to be in great shape. The pencil signature and info at the button of the print are clearly readable and unfaded. The frame itself has a small swath of white paint on the bottom (photographed above) and shows some general, mild surface wear and a chip on the front. Please treat the provided photos as part of the description. Likewise, if you have any questions about the artwork or would like additional photos, please don’t hesitate to ask. Measurements: The frame measures about 16 ¾’’ by 13 ¾’’. The visible portion of the print measures about 9 ¼’’ by 6 ¼’’. Signatures / Marks: The artist’s signature is located on the bottom right hand side (and reads “Ellingson 12/61”). On the opposite corner is the piece’s number “5/14” is also handwritten. The package will likely ship out within 24 hours of purchase and will be packed extremely safely. Please also note; due to the value of the item I will be shipping it with signature confirmation. The photos depict the EXACT ITEM you will receive, so please check them over prior to purchase. Thanks for looking!
