VIRTUALLY UNOBTAINABLE VOLUME FROM THE LIBRARY OF THOMAS EDISON GIFTED TO HIM BY THE CELEBRATED AMERICAN POET AND PLAYWRIGHT Sterling annotated inside the book on the table of contents and on the page featuring“The Light-Giver,” a poem referencing “Great Edison” and his invention of the light bulb. The poem reads in full: “‘Let there be light!’ said One. And from the ancient gulf of darkness strode, Harnessed and swift for their immortal road, The horses of the sun. And you are child of Him, Great Edison, for whose creative hands, The night is less on all the seas and lands, And day itself less dim. At evening from this hill Gaze forth, and see the stars that you have lit–The human constellations that transmit, The message of man's will.” STERLING ANNOTATES HIS POEM “THE LIGHT-GIVER” THAT BOASTS ON EDISON’S MOST FAMOUS INVENTION First edition, breen boards with gilt lettering, measures 7.75 by 5.5 inches, contains 168 pages, and in fine condition minor rubbing to the boards, foxing to the endpapers, front endpapers slightly torn down the middle, and various library markings from the defunct Upsala College of East Orange, New Jersey, which was nearby Edison’s West Orange home and laboratory.
