TED DeGRAZIA Ettore "Ted" DeGrazia (1909-1982) was a multifaceted American artist renowned for his vibrant depictions of Native American children and Southwestern scenes. Born in Morenci, Arizona, to Italian immigrant parents, DeGrazia's early life in a mining town profoundly influenced his artistic vision. After working in the mines and experiencing the hardships faced by his father, DeGrazia pursued higher education at the University of Arizona, eventually earning degrees in music and art. DeGrazia's work gained prominence after his paintings were featured in Arizona Highways magazine and his piece "Los Niños" was chosen by UNICEF for a Christmas card in 1960, selling millions of copies worldwide. Despite his success, DeGrazia was known for his rebellious nature, often clashing with art critics and academic institutions. In protest of inheritance taxes on art, he famously burned about 100 of his paintings in the Superstition Mountains in 1976.
