Description: Up for auction is this two piece brass uniform button made for the 1848 presidential election campaign of General Zachary Taylor, "Old Rough and Ready" and "The Hero of Monterey". 2 pc, 25 MM, Depicted in Alberts Button Book as PC 227. Face shows Taylor yielding a sword on horseback with "Rough and Ready" above and "Never Surrender" in smaller type below. Back is tin, RMDC with "Ne Plus Ultra" followed by 9 stars. Condition is excellent. Slight bend to shank, no pushes, natural patina with some signs of use. Non dug. This is an extremely rare variant of the Taylor uniform buttons, with only a handful known to exist, likely all from the same single order. Being offered with no reserve!
