At the beginning of December 1941, the organization already numbered more than 100 people.In the spring of 1942, Savchenko was appointed secretary of the underground city committee of the Communist Party of Dnepropetrovsk. The sabotage group under his leadership managed to blow up a large powder warehouse, destroy fuel supplies and other objects with an explosion. They destroyed trains, vehicles, soldiers and officers of the enemy.The Gestapo tried unsuccessfully to find and detain members of the sabotage squad. Savchenko several times evaded the persecution of the Gestapo. In the end, he was taken in October 1942, when he, neglecting the danger, went to restore interrupted communications.
