The date and "US" have been ground off. These were issued in small numbers in both British and French Air forces during WWI. They were also used by General Pershing in Mexico in 1916. The Imperial Russian army also bought a number of 1907s. During the 1930's, US police forces used these rifles and bayonets along with their shotguns and .38 revolvers. Overall, this bayonet is in Very Good Plus - Fine condition. The spring catch is functional with average spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have light scrapes and oxidation. The rivets are securely fastened with some light oxidation. The wood grip panels have light draglines and compressions. The spine, fullers and sides on the blade have light scuffs and handling marks, but no notable damage. The blade edge has a few very small nicks, almost not worth mentioning. It has not been sharpened. The tip is intact and comes to a dull straight point. The finish is in the white. This military "US" and date markings have been removed so the bayonet could be used for Police and civilian use. The scabbard is in Very Good Plus - Fine condition. The metal belt loop is intact with light handling wear. The swivel is securely fastened to the body. It is functional and the action is smooth. The mouth, body and finial have light handling marks, scrapes and a couple scratches. There is some scattered finish loss. The remaining finish has turned to a nice plum patina color. There are no visible markings. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Winchester Model 1907 rifle (and Krag rifle), or to a bayonet collection in general.
