Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Rare RPPC of the Monument "Welcome Home Walk Through the Gate" of the evangelist and faith healer of the "Christian Catholic Church, General Overseer John Alex Dowie" Postcard. Circa 1900. Dowie founded the city of Zion Illinois, where he personally owned all the land and established many businesses. At one time he had a following of approximately 6,000 from around the world. His flamboyant life included convictions of securities fraud prior to him being forced out of his church's leadership. There is much more to his story. Dowie was a forerunner of Pentecostalism.
