Description: Offering this stunning piece of mid-century modern German studio pottery by the renowned ceramic artist Otto Meier. This exquisite Ewer stands at 5 ½” high and measures 4” wide, showcasing Meier's signature style with a bluish grey volcanic glaze adorned with iridescent green copper spots. In perfect condition with no cracks, chips or damage of any kind. Signed on the bottom with Meier’s usual incised mark. Purchased this piece in a small shop in the town of Fussen (went and saw Neuschwanstein castle that day) back in the mid 1990’s. Meier’s work is not something you will run into very often in the United States. It’s a wonderful piece and one of those that you just like to hold and stare at (if you’re a studio pottery weirdo eccentric like myself), it’s kind of mesmerizing like that. This is a rare opportunity to add a very unique piece of German studio pottery by artist Otto Meier to your collection. Otto Meier, a seminal figure in modern German ceramics, was born in 1903 and hailed as "the silent master of the twentieth century." His journey in the arts began in 1924, studying architecture before discovering his passion for ceramics under the mentorship of the acclaimed Bernhard Hoetger in Worpswede. Meier's dedication to mastering the ceramic medium led him to manage the ceramics workshop in Hoetger’s Kunsthütten, solidifying his place in the world of pottery. This exceptional Ewer reflects Meier's evolution as an artist, showcasing the simplicity and refinement that became characteristic of his later works. The vessel's rounded, delicate form and high neck exemplify Meier's shift towards allowing the vessel's shape and glazing to speak for themselves, leaving a lasting impact on the cultural landscape of the twentieth century.
