Description: Extremely Rare Vintage One-Of-A- Kind Italian Hand-Painted Deruta 93-Piece Ceramic Dinnerware Collection Introduction: The building of this set was a labor of love. Well, it wasn’t even a labor to build — it was a joy. My wife fell in love with Deruta ceramic dinnerware while we were engaged, so as a gift to ourselves for our upcoming nuptials, we took a trip in to Beverly Hills each week to visit an exclusive Italian ceramic collectibles boutique and, in about a year’s time, we built this beautiful set — 93 PIECES! To my knowledge, it is the largest complete set of this vintage design you can find anywhere. In fact, we found only one “trinket dish” left online. Containing even a gorgeous teapot, a Salt and Pepper Cruet set and a matching Vinegar and Oil ensemble, we bought EVERY SINGLE PIECE we could find of this design (we even have a clock!). New pieces would come in each month, and we would venture down in excitement to see what the next shipment held. To see them all in one photograph (I discovered while making this listing) is a breathtaking sight to behold. Not only was this collection made with great care and love, it was — you will probably be aghast — hardly ever used. Because what we didn’t plan on was the extraordinary gift we received for our wedding — a set of dinnerware as exquisite as our own. Since it was a complete set with a festive red pattern in an equally-exclusive design, we found that, come holiday time, we would always end up using the red dinnerware rather than the blue. It was as simple as that. Occasionally, my wife and I, feeling guilty that our Deruta was going unused, would use it for Thanksgiving. But, since we didn’t do much entertaining (and it was unthinkable to use every day with our calamitous boys), it was either Christmas or Thanksgiving that the fine china was put to use, and more often than not, we picked the red design (for obvious reasons). Over the years the Deruta sat unused. Sad, except for the fact that all but two pieces of the 93 remain in pristine condition. Outside of only two chips — on a plate and a bowl — the set is unmarred. Also, it was never hidden away, but beautifully on display in an antique china cabinet in our dining room. So while it wasn’t used functionally, it was a work of art on display. So here is the set — clock and all — offered up to the next owner who will, I hope, USE it! It deserves to be displayed and appreciated, to grace a table of family and friends on any joyous gathering. This beautiful set was lovingly collected thirty years ago with joy and excitement. May it bring the same joy we felt upon discovering it to your own home. About Deruta Dinnerware This set, as I mentioned, is an extremely rare find. It is also a testament to the rich legacy of Italian ceramics that has captivated collectors and art enthusiasts for centuries. Deruta pottery, named after the charming Umbrian town of Deruta in Central Italy, has been synonymous with artistic excellence since the 12th century. By the 15th century, Deruta reached its peak, with master artisans refining their skills to create intricate designs that reflected the Renaissance's creative spirit. Each piece, meticulously hand-painted, became a canvas for traditional motifs such as geometric patterns, mythical creatures, and pastoral scenes, rendered in vibrant blues, greens, reds, and yellows. Today, Deruta pottery is still highly sought after for its unmatched quality, and this particular collection reflects that storied tradition. Handcrafted Excellence by "Ponte Vecchio" This "Ponte Vecchio" collection embodies the essence of Deruta's artistry, but with a unique twist. Crafted by master artisans in a limited production run, each piece in this set is individually handmade and painted, ensuring that no two pieces are ever exactly alike. The tiny variations, whether in brushstroke, glaze, or form, are not imperfections but rather unique signatures left by the artist’s hand. Such distinctive characteristics amplify the charm and value of each piece, making this set a true collector's item. The luminous colors and detailed designs have withstood the test of time, retaining their vibrancy and brilliance. As I mentioned earlier, only two pieces have slight chips. The chips are photographed and displayed in the listing, so you can see the very minimal flaws in this extensive collection. These markings, coupled with the vibrant, hand-painted designs, make each item not only functional but also a piece of art in its own right. The collection offers a rare opportunity to experience the beauty of traditional Italian craftsmanship. Whether displayed as a colorful focal point (as we did) or used to elevate your dining experience, this set brings the rich cultural heritage and vibrant spirit of Italy into your home. Conclusion: So why, you may ask, am I not handing down this beautiful, very-sentimental collection to my children? For starters, I have four grown boys now scattered about the world. And if I’m being honest, we could have served our holiday meals on paper plates and they would have been equally delighted (as long as my wife cooked the meal). They just don’t much care about dinnerware and none of them have yet married. Secondly, my wife and I are trying desperately to scale down our many collections (don’t even get me started on my coat and hat collection or my sports memorabilia). It is just not possible to save everything for our boys. So we’ve had to make tough choices and this is one of them. Although we’ve not used them, this collection has been beautifully displayed in an antique china cabinet in our dining room for thirty years. Let them out. Let them be yours. They are quite honestly, breathtaking.
