Fine old authentic 19th century master violin - CARL FRIEDRICH HOPF.Presumably first half 1800s, stamped on the upper back and inside the body. Please listen to the video/soundfile & scroll down to see all detailed XXL photos below as part of the description!Nicely carved scroll and accurately inlaid purfling. Outstanding antique instrument with a wonderful sound - superior to many other violins from that time. It was completely worked over in our workshop. It shows former repairs, but no open cracks or open seams, and surely some minor marks in it´s old amber varnish due to its age. The table is medium to fine grained spruce and the 1-piece back, as well as ribs and neck, is nicely flamed maple. It received new set up with refitted ebony pegs, an elder ebony chinrest and ebony tailpiece, a refitted bridge and new strings.These are new German silver wound steel core strings with good projection, easy to play while allowing rapid finger performance. We use these strings on mostly all of our violins to provide a comparison of the tonal qualities of each instrument in the videos. In any case a new owner should consider higher quality strings of own personal preference to enhance the full character of this violin!
