Operations ceased in late 1960s. The Gorham Manufacturing Company founded in 1831 in Providence, Rhode Island, by Jabez Gorham silversmiths of the 19th century was one of the largest American manufacturers for sterling and silverplate. This dish is possibly named after Georges Auguste Escoffier (1846 – 1935) a French chef, restauranteur, and culinary writer who popularized and updated traditional French cooking methods. He invented the Peach Melba and Cherries Jubilee, popular desserts on Ocean Liners. His creations were originally served in silver bowls.
