RARE Museum Worthy Josephine Baker Bakelite Necklace

Description: This is the ever elusive and incredibly rare Josephine Baker bakelite necklace. Not exactly sure the era of this necklace but could be around the time frame of her appearance in France.. The necklace depicts the spirit of her famous " Danse Sauvage " or "Banana Dance" in this large and fabulous vintage Art Deco Bakelite necklace. The articulated necklace moves and swings with every move you make.. Jointed parts make this easy to move. The necklace consists of Bakelite beads on brass chain links and jump rings, in varying sizes, shapes and colors. Colors of dark root beer, banana yellow, iced tea, and butterscotch -- along with a large head bead with hand painted details. This necklace is also a book piece appearing in Antique Trader's "Black Americana". The beaded doll sized pendant wears a fringe of painted resin bananas for the skirt and clusters of banana accents for each hand, with brass earrings. Very good condition -- with all parts original, and painted features intact. Baker flourished and felt more accepted in Europe became a successful entertainer during the period of slavery at home in the USA.. Baker flourished on the European stage and became a successful entertainer who re-conceptualized the image of Black performers through her unique dancing style and sophisticated costumes. I believe this necklace was actually made in France or so I have read. Each side measures 14" so that makes it a 28" in wearable length.
