Description: Childs Stick Spatter Stencil Plate HUNGRY RABBIT Choisy le Roi Luneville, France c.1905 This stick spatter sponge stencil ware plate was originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The plate measures about 4 inches in diameter, with a sponged black rim. The plate is playfully decorated with a stencil of a hungry rabbit holding a fork. The image is applied in a two-color motif of goldenrod and black on a creamy faience or earthenware background. The plate is unmarked except for an impressed ‘M1’ on the bottom of the plate. The plate was made by Choisy le Roi, a faiencerie in Luneville region of France, dates to c. 1905. Similar in appearance and manufacture to the earthenware sets made in the Staffordshire region of English. The plate is in great condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. Minor manufacturing imperfections, including shadowing and smudges of the stencil on the plate, original to the making. Light overall crazing consistent with age. This little plate was nicely potted. Children's sponge ware or stencil ware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. The naive talking bunnies are simple and striking. Please send us an email with any questions.
