RARE DOCUMENT 18th century Jouy Josas printed dress fabric 1700's botanical pri

Description: ~*~Hello and thank you for looking ~*~ *~ *~ A wonderful find!!! This small piece was printed at the Jouy Factory by Oberkampf in the late 18th century ~ it's FABULOUS! The design is the reason the Jouy factory took such a hold on the French public, it's wonderful. Before the early 19th century, green dye that was stable was still not invented. The greens were achieved by overdying using yellow and blue. Often the yellow used was fugitive however this green is still fabulously saturated, very clear. It's quite astounding. AND what's even more interesting is that the selvage is intact , one side has a wide blank space the other not ~*~ This fabric would have been purchased for making a gown or similar. I can see this was the bodice cut ~ It's 100% hand block printed, each and every color required it's own hand block to be carved, intricately as to execute the final design of swaying, undulating floral and vine. It's a medium weight cotton, very sturdy ~ ideal for design inspiration and use! Very sturdy still. ~ ( I have many more panels, to search my store for the other panels, please search my store for the word Oberkampf and they will appear! ~*~ ) MEASUREMENTS : approximately 37 ( maximum length in inches by 36 inches wide at the top ~*~ ~ CONDITION : This lovely piece is in as found, not freshly laundered condition . the edges are ragged and the edges have flaws ~however, the body of this piece is in AMAZING, sturdy 18th century condition. Age marks to be expected , but the colors are still SO saturated, the cloth is strong, ready to live again! ~ Inventory : EFF 117
