Description: Rare DAVIS UF (under feed) model manufactured in USA and originally sold in London, England. Serial # 636.835 places this machine circa 1896-1897. Machine is in good working order and includes all original attachments, bobbins, and a shuttle as well as an original thread spool. It has a removable 'coffin' top and lovely floral decoration on the machine. There is even a secret compartment in one of the drawers. It has been well cared for throughout its life. I replaced the leather belt in 1980. I have kept the cabinet wood oiled regularly (Howard's Feed and Wax) and have oiled the machine from time to time with the proper oil and worked it into the bearings by treadling. The work surface shows some raised grain from age and most of the measuring tape is worn out, but these things do not affect use. There was a small dent in the coffin top that was repaired and is barely noticeable. The iron shows some chipping and loss of color on the DAVIS brand. What really makes this particular machine extra special is the inclusion of the original owner's manual, a bill of sale for new needles from May 1920 and another bill of sale dated July 24, 1920 as well as a sweet handwritten note that reads, "In Loving Memory of Rose S. Hall, who fell asleep Oct 30, 1928, age 39. I have owned this machine for many years and love it dearly. I am only selling as I am downsizing my possessions. It will be a treasured antique piece for anyone. Local pick up only, however if you contact me I would be willing to work with your shipper (a freight carrier that you identify and make prior arrangements with), after payment is received for the machine at no extra charge.
