Description: RARE Confederate Amber Flint Hand Carved 1822 in France Popular Civil War -2 Pcs RARE Confederate Amber Flint Auction is for TWO PIECES AMBER Flint is much harder to find than Gray FlintHand Carved in 1822Shipped to Atlanta, Georgia in 1862Authentication was made by using original shipping crate Don't miss out on this FANTASTIC FIND!!! This extremely hard-to-find amber flint comes from the Estate of Charles Lee Andrews, III, who is a direct descendant of Major General Edwin V. Sumner and Confederate Lt. Col. Richard Snowden Andrews. If you are a Civil War buff, you are probably a familiar with Sumner. If not, definitely google him. The Andrews estate had a sale on Memorial Day, 2015. The sale included an extensive Military collection that spanned five generations of his family's contribution to American Military history. Included in this family line and collection are additional military notables, including Confederate General Armistead Lindsay Long, Major General Edward King, and Admiral Charles Andrews, Jr. There is a picture of the family tree included on this listing. The auction included a treasure trove of books, documents, manuscripts, weapons, autographs, and photographs that trace this family through the formation of the western forts in the 1850's, the Mexican-American War, the American Civil War, the Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, as well as, additional engagements in American History. I purchased a number of items from this collection including Theodore Roosevelt and Grover Cleveland autographs, military appointments, a rare early photograph of a Wright Brothers aeroplane in flight, framed war posters, West Point yearbooks, hundreds of photos, postcards, and military hats. Be sure to check out my other listings if you are a collector of military history. I will be listing most everything I purchased over the next few weeks. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This amber flint was actually hand carved in 1822 in France for Flintlock guns. It was shipped to ordinance officer M.H. Wright, Atlanta Arsenal, Georgia in 1862. It represents on of the oldest crafts in the world and is our sole remaining tie with the Stone Age culture. The amber flint mines were fully depleted over 112+ years ago. Made entirely by hand, gray flints today are supplied from one small mine in Brannon, England. This mine has supplied gray flints since 1680. The flints are often used for Civil War Reenactments. The craftsman's workbench is a solid tree trunk with a small anvil. With the skill of a man who has dedicated his life to one trade, the sliver of stone is broken into pieces and shaped into various sizes. Contact UsOffice Hours: Mon-Fri | 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.
