Manufacturer: 90th North China Arsenal Model: Type 30 Style >--> Condition: Poor - Fair (Missing Press Catch) Blade Length: 15.50" TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a rare Chinese made 90th North China Arsenal "Type 30" bayonet and scabbard. It fits the Chinese Type 79, plus the Japanese Type 30, Type 38, Type 99 and Type I rifles. After WWII, the Soviets turned over Manchuria to the Nationalist Government led by Chiang Kai-Shek due to US pressure. The Chinese communist revolution was going on and Mao Zedong's followers were always a threat. Because of this, the machines and gear were airlifted to prevent Mao's forces from stealing them. The Nationalists set up the arsenal and basically made Type 99 rifles without the Chrysanthemums. They were identical to rifles from WWII. These were produced between 1946 and 1948. In 1948, the communists pushed the nationalists out of the area. The logo on the bayonet is for the 90th North China Arsenal and is made up of the 90. It was a nationalist arsenal name. Overall, this bayonet is in Poor -Fair condition, considering its age and history. This is a RARE piece of history (we gave it this rating because it is missing its press catch plus the oxidation). The press catch is non-functional, it is missing the catch, spring and maybe other parts. The pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They both have erosion, oxidation and scrapes. The metal rivets securely fasten the grips. They have oxidized and have scrapes. The two (2x) wood grip panels have chips, compressions and draglines throughout. The wood has darkened with age. The spine, sides and fullers have scattered oxidation, pitting and scrapes. There are no nicks or dings and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Most of the finish has worn off and has discoloration. The right ricasso is marked with the 90th North China Arsenal logo. It is clear and easy to read. There are no other visible markings This scabbard is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog band is securely fastened and has some scrapes and finish loss along the leading edges. The mouth, body and finial have oxidation, scrapes and light erosion. Not much of the original finish remains, but the remaining finish has turned to a darker patina color. There is some sticky residue on the finial that should clean off. There are no visible markings on the scabbard. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Post WWII Chinese Nationalist Type 79 (Japanese Type 30) rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. It just needs a press catch, or leave it as is for a historical display. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards.
