Description: This is an extremely rare piece of California Faience art pottery by Margaret Clayes. It is signed by Clayes with her stylized signature and bears "Faience California" on the underside, as well as "patent applied for" imprint and ink stamp. The patent applied for mark dates this piece to before 1920 as Margaret Clayes received her patent for this flower frog design in 1920. See photo of patent above. It is in excellent vintage condition. I can find no cracks or chips on it. It does one surface scratch or crack on the top of the figure's jug. See photos. The color on this piece is bright and glossy. The laundry tub is matte, creating an interesting contrast between the figure and the tub. The figure's features are expressive and clean. It measures approximately 6.75" x 6.5". My grandmother purchased this piece in the mid 1900's and never used it, but kept it in storage. Please do not hesitate to contact me for more photos or with questions.
