Description: You are bidding on an antique indenture fresh from a local New England estate. The indenture dates from c 1800 and concerns the purchase of a plot of land from one James Burton. The date on the indenture is not spelled out, and the one reference to the date at the beginning of the indenture is vague and/or illegible. However, it is possible that the land in question is being purchased from the Regency and Georgian developer and architect James Burton (1761-1837), who was one of the most successful property developers of his time. The property being sold borders on land owned by Samuel Eliott Atkins, possibly that of the noted clockmaker (1807-1898). The indenture measures approximately 20" x 24" (not including frame). This is a nice document relating to the well known Sainsbury family - the spelling 'Sainchbury' is one of several variations on the Sainsbury name (others included Sansbery, Sainsbery and Sansbury). Condition overall is excellent and despite some fading the writing is in a neat and legible hand, with land plot well drawn, all in a nice frame ready for display. Please email any questions and thanks for looking!
